An annex of the venerable Badrutt's Palace, Chesa Veglia is located a short walk from the main hotel within a former-barn from 1698 turned chalet that's one of the oldest in the city decorated in regional style with elaborate window details and hushed entry. The building is home to three restaurants; two bars including the exclusive Club Prive open to members and local residents of St. Mortiz. The decor of the both the more-formal Grill Chadafo and Patrizier Stuben restaurants lean on traditional, with heavy wood paneling through an open atrium surrounded by plaid or white-clothed tabletops and formal service trained at the local hotel. <br />

The Food

Formal and more formal, even the casual dining area of Patrizier Stuben is marked by a white-glove hospitality for meals of Swiss-inspired international dishes that includes outdoor dining on a picturesque terrace during warmer summer and early fall months. Kids find a more appealing menu at more family-oriented Heuboden that combines Piedmont Italian cooking with a casual pizzeria vibe. Those looking for the full gourmet experience should book-into Chadafo that brings fine French cuisine like foie gras, classic fillets and rack of lamb in an upscale setting accented by eloquent waiters and evening piano music.

Last Word

Those in a top suite-level room at the hotel, or with a bit of name clout, should try to secure entry into the exclusive Club Prive that’s a private club open only to a membership of locals and international elite.
